We are seeking a Senior Technical Advisor to provide strategic and technical leadership at the intersection of protein folding, structural prediction algorithms, and AI-driven drug discovery.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the data and AI foundation of a cutting-edge biotech company, integrating proprietary protein footprinting data into predictive models and guiding the creation of novel, publishable results that will underpin our Series A raise within six months.
This is a fractional role with a few meetings per week initially, scaling to 10–20 hrs per week. The role is ideally suited to someone based in the Boston or Cambridge, MA, area.
Key responsibilities
Strategic technical guidance
- Lead weekly technical reviews with ML scientists; provide hands-on feedback on models and research directions.
- Identify and recommend new approaches when current strategies underperform.
Academic and collaborative leadership
- Build and manage relationships with academic partners, particularly within the Boston/Cambridge ecosystem.
- Engage deeply with professors, postdocs, and collaborators at a technical level to foster innovation and credibility.
Strategic positioning and visibility
- Represent the company through conferences, investor meetings, and strategic partnerships.
- Contribute to defining and communicating the company’s AI/data strategy for internal alignment and external visibility.
Talent and capability building
- Advise on recruiting, mentoring, and scaling high-caliber teams in AI/ML, computational biology, and bioinformatics.
Core technical requirements
- Deep expertise in protein folding models (e.g., AlphaFold, Isomorphic, Chai, Boltz).
- Strong understanding of AI algorithms for protein structure prediction.
- Hands-on experience with computational methods for structural assessment.
- Ability to critically evaluate and guide model development beyond implementation, with clear understanding of algorithmic principles.
- Strategic insight into integrating novel structural datasets into predictive pipelines.
Why apply
- Shape a pioneering data/AI strategy in the fast-evolving space of AI-driven drug discovery.
- Collaborate with world-class researchers and a forward-looking executive team.
- Potential to evolve into the Chief Data & AI Officer role by mid–late 2026.
- Flexible structure and significant autonomy in defining technical direction.
